Evaluation of Dissolution Behavior of Cefuroxime Axetil as Affected by Polymeric Interaction Using Mixture Design Experiment

The objective of this project was to improve the solubility poorly water soluble drugs, namely cefuroxime axetil by formulating solid dispersions with hydrophilic polymer. Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC), polyvinyl pyrrolidine (PVP) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) were used as polymeric carriers for preparation dispersion. Solid prepared solvent extraction method. Interaction effect HPMC, PVP PEG investigated using a simplex mixture design. A fitted mathematical model express each response function proportion blend components that are able empirically predict any combination components. synergistic interaction ternary HPMC: PVP: shown be strongest among experimental blends. Nevertheless, an antagonistic becomes significant HPMC increases in study revealed design could valuable tool better elucidating predicting effects on dissolution beyond conventional one component blend.
